The Rhythm Room Enrichment Programs Bucket Boot Camp This workshop is ideal for large classes ranging from 20-40 students. Each student is given a bucket and the group is taught a small composition comprising of synchronized rhythm, tempo and movement. Next, students are given drum sticks to learn correct stick technique, simple rudiments and dynamics. The class ends with students breaking into smaller groups to work as a team to create their own 1-2 minute mini composition. Each group then performs their composition for fellow classmates. World Beat This is designed for smaller groups of 10-20 students. World instruments such as congas, djembes, djun djuns, timbales, talking drum, cowbells, shakers, woodblocks and drum set are provided. Proper technique for each instrument is demonstrated. Students are given the opportunity to play the instruments as they learn proper technique, playing position, tonality and meter. Once they've learned proper technique, they learn rhythms from diverse cultures and perform as a group. (This class is best for a 45-60 minute session).
Fusion This workshop is a combination of the above mentioned classes. It starts with buckets and then introduces world percussion. The end result is students combining the world instruments with the buckets for a fun fusion jam session. Performance occurs for the students during the workshops, but they finish the day watching a performance by The Rhythm Room with 5-9 performers, depending on the school's budget/needs. Students get to see all the elements of the workshops pulled together. The show is comprised of all original music and includes jazz, rap, rock, world music and blues in a choreographed show.
